    • Zij overleefden de ramp met de Phoenix. Volgens van Eyck 1940-22/2 is zij gered doordat ze zich vasthield aan de boeg van een van de reddingsboten. Ze is de schok nooit te boven gekomen en stierf zes maanden later.

    Passengers on the Phoenix.
    On November 21, 1847, the propeller Phoenix perished on Lake Michigan, a couple of miles off the shore from Sheboygan. About 250 people died and only 43 people survived. Most of the passengers were Dutch immigrants.
