    Passengers on the Phoenix.
    On November 21, 1847, the propeller Phoenix perished on Lake Michigan, a couple of miles off the shore from Sheboygan. About 250 people died and only 43 people survived. Most of the passengers were Dutch immigrants.

    • Volgens corresp. van Eyck 1940-22/2 is zij gered doordat ze van het brandende dek in de reddingsboot werd gegooid.
      Haar moeder zag een oudere zus van haar in de reddingsboot en heeft de kleine Hanna van het dek af in de reddingsboot gegooid, op deze manier haar leven reddend.
