    • In 1836 heeft een gedeelte van de Hervormde kerk van Aalten zich afgescheiden. Tot deze groep behoorde o.a. Derk Willem Navis.

      De afgescheiden gemeente van Aalten hielden diensten bij L. Oberink en D.W. Navis in Lintelo, B. Groot Nibbelink op de boerderij Olderslag, en bij A. Colenbrander op Keurhorst.


      Derk Willem Navis was een had een redelijk grote boerderij. Hij woonde op boerderij "Navis" Lintelo 47, nu Navisweg 6 in Aalten. Hij emigreerde met zijn vrouw Johanna Rexwinkel, en hun kinderen Hendrika Johanna, 20, Gerrit Hendrik, 13, Hendrik Jan, 9, Geertruid, 8, en Hendrik Willem, 5. Met hun emigreerde zijn moeder, Janna Lieftink, geb. 29-11-1767. Zij was de weduwe van Hendrik Jan Navis en was al 80 jaar oud toen ze emigreerde. Ze waren alle afgescheiden van de kerk van Aalten.

    Passengers on the Phoenix.
    On November 21, 1847, the propeller Phoenix perished on Lake Michigan, a couple of miles off the shore from Sheboygan. About 250 people died and only 43 people survived. Most of the passengers were Dutch immigrants.
