Projects

  • Population registers of Barneveld 1850-1920 are being indexed. Volunteers can report to Vele Handen.

Archives

  • Several important records that had been stolen from the Nationaal Archief, the National Archives of the Netherlands, have been returned. This includes records from the Dutch East India Company, a ship’s log kept by the famous admiral Michel A. de Ruyter, and early resolutions of the States-General. The records had been stolen by an employee, who had pawned them. They were found in an attic and brought to an expert, who realized where they belonged and helped return the records to the Nationaal Archief.  The Smithsonian Magazine has an article with more information.
  • As of 1 July, a new archive, the Noord-Veluws Archief (NOVA), keeps the records of eight municipalities in Gelderland: Elburg, Ermelo Harderwijk, Nunspeet, Oldebroek, Epe, Hattem, and Heerde. More information about NOVA and their collections can be found on their website.
  • The municipality of Sluis decided to stop with their own municipal archives and transfer their records to the Zeeuws Archief in Middelburg. The transfer should be completed by July 2026. This will make the records available via Scanning-on-demand, a service that the Zeeuws Archief provides but the municipal archives of Sluis does not. [Source: BN de Stem]
  • About 1300 manuscripts regarding Amsterdam topics have been acquired by the Amsterdam City Archives. They are described in the finding aid, and available via scanning-on-demand.
  • The records of Badan Persatuan, an organization promoting the interests of Moluccans in the Netherlands, is now available at the Drents Archief. The records cover the 1911 to 2004 period and can be consulted in the reading room. [Source: Drents Archief]
