Dutch Genealogy News for April 2020

Here is an overview of the new sources, projects, and news about archives that were announced last month.

Sources

  • The Gelders Archief finished creating a finding aid for the Counts and Dukes of Gelre and Zutphen (1107-1543). The finding aid can be found at the Gelders Archief website and contains scans of many of the records.
  • The charters of the city of Veere (1349-1784) have been transcribed. Check the news article (Dutch) for the links to the transcriptions on Google Drive and for the links to the scans of the charters.

  • The Regionaal Archief Riverenland published a translation table to determine the modern addresses for old streets and house numbers for the city of Culemborg.
  • The Brabants Historisch Informatie Centrum digitized several record groups for village and town administrations in the east of Noord-Brabant before 1811. See the news article for links to the finding aids that include the scans.
  • The Brabants Historisch Informatie Centrum also published an index and scans of the name taking records of east Noord-Brabant for 1811 and 1826. Check the index and scans.
  • The Streekarchief Langstraat Heusden Altena indexed and scanned all the church records (baptisms, marriages, deaths) for the period 1588-1811. They can now be searched via the SALHA website. The membership records will be indexed too.
  • Erfgoed Leiden en Omstreken digitized records relating to the Pilgrims in Leiden in the period 1609-1620. Over 1500 mentions were entered into a database, attached to the scans.
  • The Regionaal Archief Tilburg digitized and published their collection of World War II posters on their website.

Archives

  • The Regionaal Archief Zutphen received the CoreTrustSeal for their digital repository. The quality mark verifies that the digital repository is reliably preserving digital information. [Source: NDE]
  • A finding aid for the Anabaptist Church [Doopsgezinde Gemeente] in Borne has been added to the Historisch Centrum Overijssel website.
  • The National Coordinator of Counter-Terrorism and Security will coordinate the permanent preservation of records relating to COVID-19 within the national government of the Netherlands. The National Archives will advise the coordinator and the different departments. [Source: National Archives]
  • The Noord-Hollands Archief discovered a previously unknown panoramic view of Stockholm from 1588 in their collection. See the high-resolution image in their image bank.

Projects

  • The Amsterdam City Archives received funding to digitized a quarter of a million alien registration cards of the Amsterdam police records. This includes Jews who fled Germany to come to the Netherlands before and at the beginning of World War II. Digitization will take en estimated two years. The cards will then be made searchable.   • The Groninger Archieven almost completed a project to index the Groningen church membership records for the period before 1811. They will be added to Alle Groningers. [Source: Groninger Archieven]
