Quick tip – Two New Netherland Articles Published

Two of my clients published articles in the New York Genealogical and Biographical Record (April 2017 issue) for which they used research I did for them:

  •  Harry Macy, “Origin of the Amerman and Terhune Families, and their Founding Mother Geertje Dirks.” This article includes research I did to identify the origins of Albert Terhune, patriarch of the New Netherland Terhune family.
  • Adrian Burke, “A Note on Origins of Alexander Glen, Alias Sander Leendertz Glen, of Schenectady County, New York.” This article includes research I did into some Amsterdam notarial records that included Alexander Glen.

Both authors graciously acknowledged my contributions in their articles, for which I thank them.

I love it when research I do provides new insights, and when clients share that information with other researchers by publishing the findings. These two clients are researchers and authors themselves, and my research was a part of a larger project. In other cases, clients hire me to do all the research. Some allow me to publish about it while others prefer to publish the findings themselves. I have several New Netherland projects that I plan to turn into articles, so keep following this website if that interests you.

Note: The Record is available to members of the New York Genealogical & Biographical Society at the New York Family History website and in major libraries across the United States, as well as in the Royal Library and some other research libraries in the Netherlands.

Have you ever heard of DeLaunay … it’s on my grandmothers tombstone

    Yvonne,

Thanks for noting these articles. I will have to read Burke’s article, as Alexander Glen is among my New Netherland ancestors. The name Geertie Dirckx rings some bells too. I’m a member of the NYGBS, so I don’t know how I missed that issue!

Yvette, just to give credit where credit is due, Renee Dauven co-authored the Amerman-Terhune article with Harry Macy Jr. It’s a ground-breaking article with newly discovered documents on both sides of the Atlantic adding to our knowledge of these families. There are also new findings on the Romeyn family, for those who are interested!

Thanks for bringing attention to both of these articles!

      Hello Karen,
I am researching my husband’s family and have taken him back to Benjamin Romeyn who is a DAR Patriot. I would be very interested in your article about the Romaine family. Thank you for any help in locating this research.
