A rekening is an account or bill.
Stadsrekeningen (city accounts) for example, record the income and expenses of a city. You can also find rekeningen in orphan chamber records, showing the assets and debts of an estate to determine the money owed to the orphans.

rekeningen in archieven te vinden. Ben nu bezig met een boek over de Deventer Gasthuizen (C.M. Hogenstijn, De Verenigde Gestichten, Geschiedenis van Deventer gasthuizen en hun landerijen, ISBN 90-72047-04-4). Als voorbeeld: Kostkopers kochten een plaatsje in een van de vele gasthuizen voor hun oude dag. Al hun bezittingen moesten in de regel worden ingebracht om in de toekomstige kosten van levensonderhoud te kunnen voorzien. En als kers op de taart: het boek heeft een uitgebreid register op persoonsnamen.
